Cade and I decided before school starts and things get busy we had better take a vacation. We hadn't really been anywhere since we went skiing back in February...I know, I know, that wasn't too long ago but we love traveling together. We were thinking of new places to go and couldn't really come up with anywhere that was close enough for a weekend getaway other than Eureka Springs. Not that we don't love Eureka (this was our first vacation together before we got married so it's pretty special to us) we are adventurous types who love new places! So last Thursday we took off on the 8 hour road trip.
We stayed at Eureka Sunset in a treehouse/cabin that the back deck looks over the forest of beautiful green luscious trees. They give a discount if you've stayed with them before which pulled us back here again even more! I was a bad photographer on this trip but I had a good reason for it! We decided after leaving OKC that we would be taking a hiatus from Facebook and text messaging. I did take the iPad but I only read my book off of it the entire time- I will say that I read 2 books in 3 days. I'm a nerd, I know. Anyways, once we checked into "Just Moosin' Around", which was the clever name of our cabin, we ventured to our favorite place to eat.
It's a little dive bar called Angler's and it is amazing! They are famous for their catfish and hot wings and, now in my definition, their wonderful sour-creamy potato salad! The hot wings are boneless with a special hot sauce on them- not a buffalo sauce, mind you! This is some bright red goodness! The potato salad had bacon, chopped up baking potatoes, and had this wonderful tasty mix of sour cream and a little cream cheese. It was out of this world. We also go here because they have a beer Cade and I have really grown to like... BUT we were so sad when we were told they hadn't received it yet for the season! Bummer! Of course, this made us more adventurous in what we tried! Cade tried a few but wasn't really sold on any. I, on the other hand, have a new favorite at Angler's! Abita Strawberry is amazing. The strawberry after-taste is pretty dang good!
Enough about eating.. I'm making myself hungry for wings and potato salad and it's not even 9am!

The next day we woke up and went golfing at Holiday Isle. This place was gorgeous! Mountains in the distance and a cool 70 degrees, this was my kind of vacation. Cade has been teaching me to golf and I didn't do half bad, in my opinion, baseball swing and all! I made contact with the ball on almost all of my first swings, got on the green after 4 to 5 hits! Not too shabby if I do say so myself. Cade, on the other hand, has a much more powerful and mature knowledge of the game. Let me tell ya, my honey can golf!
We played the course and headed back to the room to rest and get cleaned up before heading to supper at Ermilios. This Italian joint is well known around these parts and they do not take reservations. It's first come first serve. They open at 5 for dinner every night and close at 8 or 9. It's worth it. We left our room around 6:30 that evening and received a table around 7:30-7:45. It was delicious as always. Cade had homemade ravioli in alfredo sauce and I had spaghetti and meatballs. Before dinner, they serve roasted garlic with their homemade bread which is also divine!

The next morning we woke up and ate some amazing breakfast at Mud St. Cafe. Espresso coffee drinks and sour cream pancakes were the specialties here. Seriously, we both came home feeling like we ate the entire time...wait... We did. So sorry if I'm making y'all hungry!
After getting our bellies full, again, we decided to walk it off at Turpentine Creek. This is a wild cat/animal habitat that houses cats or larger animals that they have received due to people trying to keep the animals as pets, then as they get older their natural instincts take over and the animals become hard to control, so they have to do something with them. I really respected this place knowing that these animals needed a place like this because these animals cannot return to the wild. We saw ligers, tigers, bears, cheetah, leopards, lions, monkeys, you name it we probably saw it. Some of these animals also came from zoo's that were having to downsize due to cost and other issues. Surprisingly, a few came from Oklahoma! Cade and I really enjoyed this side trip and if any of y'all are close to here stop by. You will be amazed. The habitats they live in are made to be exactly like what they would live in if they were in the wild and you wouldn't believe all the sponsors this place has to help aid in feeding and housing.

Totally changing the subject, my mom has been on a mad search for a wine her friend has been looking for after trying it on a business trip once. After researching this, we found out that the wine is sold only (or so we were told) at the winery that it's made at. Turns out the winery was in Branson, which was about an hour from Eureka. I called my mom and told her that we were headed to Branson to get the wine for her. Needless to say, it made her day. Even better, after we got the wine for Brenda we found out her birthday was the following day! All the better! So hubby and I made the small trek to Branson by a scenic route and it was gorgeous. Of course, once we reached the winery and found the special wine- Norton by Stonehill wines if anyone is wondering- we of course had to do a wine tasting. The Norton was worth the drive if I do say so myself. We paid for our booty and headed back to our "home away from home". This was our last night so we wandered back around the mountains and trees to Angler's. We sat out on the patio and listened to live music while we ate our last meal here of hot wings. We are pitiful, I know, but you've never had these hot wings! This was a great end to a wonderful getaway with my amazing husband.
Big thanks to my mom and dad who kept Gilly girl! She was so excited when we picked her up and we were as excited as she was I'm pretty sure!
Ending my post today I just found out my cousin had her twins! I am so excited for her and the start of a wonderful and beautiful little family. Seems just yesterday we were singing "Chances Are" in grandmothers pool eating cinnamon toast and drinking up her Diet Coke. Love you like a sister, Chels! You will be an amazing mother to V and E and I can't wait to be there to watch it.
These are some pics I did sneak. The Abita strawberry beer, hubby and I playing pool, and just is being our normal selves!
